Maria Tonu is known as a writer, editor, anthologist, and scholar.

Maria Tonu is the Ambassador of the Word, conferred by the César Egido Serrano Foundation and the Museum of Words (Spain) for her flash fiction stories (100 words): “Father” and “The Fresh Rose”, 2018.

For the non-fiction book “Our Canada: Now and Always”, Maria Tonu received the Canada 150 pin from the Honourable Judy A. Sgro, PC, MP, Canadian Parliament, 2017.

Maria Tonu is a Moldovan-born Canadian poet, writer, and anthologist. She writes, reads, and translates from/into three languages: Romanian (native), Russian (born in the former Soviet Union), and English (Canadian citizen).
She resides in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.

Maria Tonu publishes lyrics, flash fiction, prose, quotes, essays, sketches, and literary portraits in the media of the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Canada, the US, and the UK.

Maria has published as an author: a novel, four poetry books, four poetry books for children, two volumes of short prose and maxims, a monograph, and two books of memoirs/biographies. She has published six anthologies, three as a co-author. As editor and founder of MediaTon Publishing House, Maria Tonu has published 12 books by different writers. Maria has several passions: she paints in acrylics, plays tennis, and is fascinated by the kingdom of mushrooms.

Maria Tonu graduated from the Faculty of Journalism.

Maria Tonu completed postgraduate studies in Sociology.

In 2016, Maria Tonu received a scholarship: 
Translator in Training 
from the Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest, Romania.
